We are currently looking for a Vice President, Government Affairs reporting to our Senior Vice President Corporate/Regulatory Affairs
Responsibilities will include:
• Develop and promote Shaw’s presence within the appropriate ministries, with individual MPs, party Caucuses or agencies of the government of Canada
• Raise Shaw’s profile with key Ministers, MPs and senior officials and ensure that they are fully aware of Shaw’s issues and positions
• Develop Shaw’s local (Provincial & Municipal) government relations such that they have a knowledge and understanding of Shaw’s contribution to the communities and to be able to meet to discuss any issues in a positive and constructive manner
• Ensure that Shaw has full knowledge of all government initiatives and programs as well as legislative and regulatory actions that have the potential to directly or indirectly influence Shaw’s business activities across Canada
• Brief senior leadership team on key policy, legislative and political environmental changes.
• Develop and implement an overall plan and strategy for Shaw, including specific initiatives to ensure that we can achieve the appropriate policy and regulatory environment to support our business strategies
• To develop and implement a procurement plan with provincial and municipal government to develop further commercial opportunities for Shaw with specific reference to Shaw Business Solutions
• Understand, and articulate the key challenges facing the communications, broadcast and cable industries today and going forward and how Shaw’s strategy responds to the dramatic changes happening in this industry
• Possesses the ability to identify and respond to opportunities for Shaw to raise its profile in Ottawa through sponsorships, hosting of events and other corporate activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
•Post Secondary Education in Political Science, Business or a related discipline and 7 – 10 years of direct work experience.
•Team player with highly developed relationship management skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the other members of the Regulatory team and members of the Senior Leadership team.
•Exceptional organizational skills with an attention to detail
•Ability to unlock hidden potential as well as ensure delivery against commitments.
•Demonstrated excellence with written and oral communication (in both French & English)
•Good relationships at all levels of Government in Canada
•A positive “Can do” attitude and customer service approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity
