We're an early stage startup in Toronto, Ontario looking to add more talent to our team. The team is currently led by two founding members and has built a minimum viable product with private beta users and a number B2B pilots in place as we work through the lean startup methodology. One of the founders previously sold the last business to a public company and the startup is further supported by a seasoned advisory board.

This is an opportunity for the right candidate to have substantial equity and influence in a business that is starting to get off the ground. Furthermore, as the role evolves, there is a clear opportunity to lead the technology side of the business and take on a CTO role. Position Summary:
CTO/Co-Founder at a Toronto startup
Joining two current co-founders as we work through the lean startup methodology
Taking technical ownership of the product including the development, project management, and platform build out of the SaaS product
Substantial equity and opportunity to move into the CTO role over time
There’s a heavy emphasis on equity, but a small base salary is possible

An Ideal Candidate Would Have:
Experienced in server side language (PHP or Ruby or Python), traditional SQL databases (MYSQL, Oracle, MSSQL), advanced JavaScipt (jQuery and/or Angular JS), HTML5 (with Bootstrap), Cloud application hosting (Amazon or AppFog or Rackspace).
Strong understandings of design patterns, algorithms, software development fundamentals, and database architecture (SQL and NOSQL)
Been involved in using or building an API, such as Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn
A wide array of experience with testing, cloud hosting, mobile application development, user experience design, business requirements, and agile methodologies
Experienced as a part of the leadership team within a startup environment
Owned products and features, and built them from conception to delivery
Ability to balance ideal technical solutions with business realities
Worked on side projects to stay constantly up to date with new technical skills and technologies
Led teams of smart developers and developed internal talent
A love of solving complex and meaningful technical challenges
A lifelong learner, full of energy, and the ability to skate where the puck is going

High-Level Performance Objectives:

  • Propose and implement technical solutions for problems
  • Manage development lifecycle, code (at least in the near term), and plan technological roadmap
  • Recruit, hire, and retain the very best talent for the company
