The newly-formed Ontario Bean Growers is a not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of all dry edible bean producers in the province of Ontario.
The organization is an amalgamation of the Ontario Bean Producers’ Marketing Board and the Ontario Coloured Bean Growers Association.
The farmer members of Ontario Bean Growers produce fifteen different types of dry edible beans on an average of 130,000 acres annually.
Ontario Bean Growers is seeking a half time (20 hours per week) Research and Development Coordinator to administer existing research projects and work with the board-directed research priorities to seek new research opportunities and funding sources.
Key Responsibilities: ·
- Work with the Ontario Bean Growers Research Committee and the Ontario dry edible bean industry to develop long term research priorities for recommendation to the board of directors ·
- Develop strategies to achieve the long term research priorities of the board ·
- Issue calls for proposal and evaluate new research proposals against the long term priorities of the board
- Review and recommend funding opportunities ·
- Work with researchers to complete research proposals that will meet funding criteria ·
- Work with researchers throughout the research process to ensure each research project is achieving its objectives and budgets and reporting timelines are met ·
- Build and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders to ensure research is meeting industry-wide goals and objectives ·
- Participate in research communications to the board, industry and the membership to ensure project goals and results are shared widely and new practices and technologies are adopted ·
- Responsible for meeting the research and development budget targets ·
- Attend trade shows, industry-related events and interact with producer members, industry partners, researchers and other stakeholders ·
- Reporting to the General Manager Skills and Experience: ·
- A degree and/or post-graduate experience in Agriculture, preferably Crop Science ·
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience coordinating research and development projects ·
- Strong knowledge of the current research environment ·
- Solid understanding of current technical, agricultural and producer practices in Ontario ·
- Proven project management skills ·
- Exceptional communications skills (oral, written and presentation) ·
- Ability to develop outstanding relationships ·
- Ability to work independently ·
- Willing to travel nationally and internationally
