Have you ever thought about becoming a Lifeguard?  Do you enjoy working with the public promoting healthy lifestyles in a fun and friendly manner, and working in an environment to ensure safety and teaching swimming to various age groups?

The City of Burnaby has eight (four indoor and four outdoor) pools; Indoor pools are located at Bonsor Recreation Complex, CG Brown Pool, Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool, and Edmonds Community Centre a new indoor pool in southeast Burnaby!   Outdoor pools include: Central Park Outdoor Pool, Kensington Outdoor Pool, McPherson Outdoor Pool, and Robert Burnaby Outdoor Pool.

Some of the exciting duties of a lifeguard / instructor may include conducting instructional aquatic programs for all age ranges, water surveillance and rule enforcement, as well as rescues and first aid when required. Other responsibilities include chemical testing of pool water, cleaning of the pool, completing daily report forms regarding daily duties, cleaning bathrooms, ensuring safe and clean facilities and performing other related duties as required.

The following licences and current certifications are required:

      Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate
      Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate
      National Lifeguard Service Award
      C.P.R. Certificate – Level C with AED (current within 1 year).

An Aqua Fitness Certificate, a valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License, and a Pool Operator’s Certificate are considered assets.

      Must attend one wet screen – exact dates to be confirmed

     If successful in the wet screen:

      Must be available to attend one dry interview: exact date to be confirmed

If selected for hire, must attend mandatory orientation and in-service training.
