The Wheat Breeder is responsible for the construction and operation of North America dedicated to the development of top products for North America.
In addition, will contribute to the technical aspects of breeding to ensure continued innovation of the product.
The ultimate measure of the employees’ performance is the effective operations of the breeding function to ensure breeding plans are achieved resulting in strong agronomic performance and market value of the developed varieties plus the associated Crop Protection products .
Responsibilities: 
·         Participates in strategic planning and development of Canadian Business Plans and participates on the global breeding team by contributing to the development of breeding activities with a primary focus on Canada..  
 ·         Accountable for the effective and efficient design, management and execution of all programs within and across departments to ensure the realization of breeding and development objectives designed for Canada.  Plan and monitor all required actions to ensure efficient supervision of all aspects of the Canadian Wheat Breeding program         
Creates, develops and executes the following breeding technical aspects:
predetermination of the results to be accomplished by precise and knowledgeable genetic assessment and breeding selection, germplasm identification, parental line refining and hybrid development planning and creation of schemes of breeding process in the greenhouse and field operations (breeding nurseries, field experimental designs) in Canada and contra season.
·         Develop pathology strategy within the global wheat breeding team, including but not limited to the following areas; gene deployment, screening and testing activities
·         Oversees Non GM and GM trait deployment in Canadian wheat varieties ·         Oversees the compilation of final breeding documentation and the preparation of final variety registration packages. ·         Accountable for all resource plans – human resources, operational and capex budgets for the Canadian breeding program ensuring the program runs efficiently and within +/- 5% of budget. ·         Provides leadership in all aspects including Human Resource activities such as workforce planning, performance management and coaching etc.         
Oversees and directs the movement of seed throughout the breeding program including coordinating with seed production to ensure seed movement from breeding to parent seed and technical assistance and information is provided.
·         Ensure compliance with quality management and compliance processes and protocols by managing the development, maintenance and adherence to appropriate processes/protocols within the department.
·         Accountable for adherence to stewardship/regulatory/government legislation and that all required documentation/applications etc are completed and submitted.  This will require working directly with the global regulatory manager.  
·         Provide expertise to other departments with BCS such as sales and marketing and production.
 ·         Continually develops knowledge and brings new breeding techniques to the market with the goal of bringing the best varieties to the market through participation of the global breeding team.  
Qualifications   
The incumbent must possess a combination of education and experience demonstrating an extensive knowledge of wheat breeding research, FI variety development, parent and certified hybrid seed production issues as well as a comprehensive understanding of the seed business and market relationships.
Specific qualifications to include:
 ·         A minimum of a Masters Degree (Ph.D preferred) with specialization in crop science and a minimum of 10 years experience in plant breeding.
·         Knowledge of pathology in wheat
·         Knowledge of the entire system of variety development, product registration and seed production is essential.
·         Knowledge of wheat development, Canadian variety registration and variety protection is essential.
·         Knowledge of other hybridization systems and hybrid breeding in competitive companies is beneficial.
