A multifaceted resource management professional with a commitment to protecting our vital Agricultural Land Reserve
Preserving the 4.7 million hectares of agricultural land in the province is the responsibility of the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC). The ALC works with communities, local governments, first nations and other government agencies to ensure the long-term protection of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).
As the Agrologist, your role will encompass providing professional and technical expertise as the ALC soils specialist for land use applications, ALC policy related to agricultural soils and land use as well as providing recommendations on all soil reclamation activities. You are independent and motivated, maintaining current knowledge of trends and developments in agrology and preparing and presenting technical papers to internal and external stakeholders. A highly effective communicator, you develop productive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholder groups; deliver expert advice regarding land use applications and proposals and impacts to soils; conduct technical assessments of applications and projects involving placement of and/or removal of soil including site inspections, soil capability assessment and mapping and reports and make professional recommendations; and facilitate resolutions to complex problems. In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following education and experience:
A degree in Agrology with a specialization in soil science, or an equivalent as recognized by the relevant association for professional registration.
Consideration may be given for university level or specialized technical education in soil sciences, geomorphology or geotechnical engineering (soils focused).
With a Bachelor’s degree: minimum of 3 years experience in soil classification, land capability assessment, soil survey, reclamation and rehabilitation soil management.
With a Masters degree, subject to area of study: may consider less than 3 years experience in soil classification, land capability assessment, soil survey, reclamation and rehabilitation soil management.
Registered, or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists.
Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence and be physically able to conduct fieldwork.
