Qualifications:
Essential:
• Related administrative/secretarial training and/or extensive directly related experience providing senior-level administrative secretarial support
• Experience creating, maintaining and administering a file management system
• Experience dealing with the public and/or clients in person and on the phone
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong political acumen and interpersonal skills
• Experience/ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
• Strong analytical and sound judgement skills
• Experience/ability to understand and explain legislation and policies
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle heavy workloads
• Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office products (or equivalents) and the Internet
• Experience working with and knowledge of Government procedures and practices in the areas of budgeting and cash flows

Desired:
• Experience working with related stakeholders
• Strong working knowledge of and experience within virtual office environments which includes the operating of video conferencing, teleconferencing, audio/visual equipment and social media
• Experience in SAP (i.e., Procurement and Timekeeping)
• Knowledge of The Police Services Act
• Related post-secondary education relative to Social Sciences; Criminology; or, equivalent


Duties:
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and has responsibility to provide administrative and secretarial support for the IIU.  This will include but not be limited to creating, maintaining and administering a file management system, establishing office routines, schedules and processes as well as ensuring an appropriate level of administrative support for all programs under the umbrella of the IIU.  The incumbent will be acting as the first point of contact for inquiries with the public, stakeholders and media regarding the Unit.  Other responsibilities include financial monitoring, budgeting, making travel arrangements, minute taking, updating/maintaining the Unit’s website and social media sites on a regular basis.  Finally, the incumbent will also be arranging IIU internal and external training sessions when required.
